Vita-Bug Waxworms (Galleria mellonella) are often used by reptile owners and keepers as a treat, waxworms are high in fat and very desirable for insectivores. Waxworms should notbe used as a staple food item.
Vita-Bug Waxworms are the result of years of research and development targeted at improving the nutritional profile of a feeder insect product line by providing a quality food source during the entire growing process that delivers those nutrients directly to insect-eaters. Vita-Bugs® consume a patented food throughout their lifetime specifically formulated for insect consumption, fortified with nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Beta-Carotene Omega-6 and Omega-3 Fatty Acids just to name a few. Not only does the feed itself contain these vitamins, it’s also scientifically proven that they are actually consumed and retained within the tissue of the insect.
Waxworms can be used as a much-needed energy source for pregnant female reptiles and those recovering from pregnancy or illness.

Keeping Vita-Bug Waxworms with different feeder insects can be tricky and is generally not recommended. You should use separate containers tailored to each insect species.
Waxworms (Galleria mellonella) are packed in aspen chips that serve as their bedding. Waxworms are at a stage in their lives where they no longer eat and survive on their body mass. To slow their metabolism, it is best to keep them in a refrigerator between 50F and 55F with low humidity. Typical refrigerator settings are much colder than 55F, so we recommend turning the fridge to the warmest setting and storing waxworms in the door where it stays a bit warmer.
It is our recommendation to use all your Vita-Bug Waxworms within 3-4 weeks of their pack date.
